Château de Versailles
Visiting tips
Best Times and Strategies for Visiting
The wait to buy a ticket on site (Entrance B) can exceed one hour, to which must be added the wait for the security check (Entrance A). If you buy your ticket online, you'll go straight to Entrance A.
If possible, don't plan your visit on a Tuesday or over the weekend. Choose Wednesday or Thursday for a more leisurely experience. Peak visitor numbers are between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., so to avoid the crowds we strongly recommend a visit in the morning, or in the late afternoon when the castle gradually empties.
The "Passport": the most comprehensive ticket
The most popular ticket is the "Passport", which for €32 gives you access to the entire estate ( Castle, Gardens, Trianon Estate, and shows such as the Grandes Eaux).
Free admission
Admission to the Castle and Trianon Estate is free for under-18s and EU residents under 26. Simply go directly to Entrance A with proof of age.
Essential information
The Grandes Eaux Musicales (weekends) and the Jardins Musicaux (some Tuesdays and Fridays in high season) are magnificent shows in which the bosquets and fountains are watered to the sound of Baroque music.
Crucial point: on these days, access to the Gardens becomes chargeable for everyone (including those benefiting from free admission).
